Nida Art Colony, Lithuania
The international symposium “On Critical Tourism, Site-specificity and Post-romantic Condition” is a 4-day-long event, in the frame of the cooperation project “On Hosting and Displacing” co-organised by Nida Art Colony, Lithuania and Ecole Cantonale d’Art du Valais in Sierre, Switzerland. More than 30 art professionals (artists, curators, researchers) will arrive to Nida to discuss and re-enact: the artist as tourist, artistic and curatorial practices in remote contexts as hospitality, museification of landscape, touristic gaze and the construction of places, critical artistic actions in alpine and seaside contexts, displacing artistic practices, etc. They keynote lectures will be given by Sibylle Omlin, Sebastian Cichocki and Wilko Graf von Hardenberg.
Within the cooperation, there are also short and long residencies taking place, both in Nida and Sierre. During April and May, the Swiss artist Gilles Furtwängler is staying at the residency in Nida Art Colony. He works across mediums of performance, spoken word, text, print, live sculpture and everything beyond and in between these fields. His residency will result, among others, in a live performance which will be realized at the symposium.
